It has been three years since Louis Quilico passed away unexpectedly, in July 2000, but his memory is kept very much alive through the efforts of his widow, pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico. A number of CDs and videos have been released documenting the art of the great Canadian baritone, and the Christina and Louis Quilico Fund was established to help young singers and pianists. Proceeds from this CD are earmarked for that purpose.

In its prime, the Quilico voice was a magnificent instrument, a true Verdi baritone of exceptional quality, richness and dramatic impact. This performance took place in Merkin Hall, New York, in 1998, when Quilico was 73 and had enjoyed a long and distinguished career spanning five decades. …
