The Candlestick Forecaster consists of three tools: a candlestick charting program, a candlestick tutorial and a pattern recognition system.

A typical session begins with the user viewing a candlestick chart. If you aim the pointer at a particular day on the chart, a keystroke or two will produce an explanation window describing the candle representing that day's trading.

The user may then choose to summon a "Forecast" window. The Forecast window projects price action based on that candlestick and up to three preceding it. The program tries to match what it sees to one of 200 patterns in its library.

The package includes data for 30 markets, 150 days each. Users can manually update or download from several different formats.

An "import" feature lets you transfer charts into the program's ".CSF" format. The vendor says the upcoming Version 1.2 will read and analyze several formats (including Future-Source and Commodity System Inc.) without transfer data formats.

The graphics are pleasing. The images appear as the traditional white-filled or black-filled candles against a soft, sky blue background.

One bothersome aspect was the habitual clearing of the chart screen when I asked for a forecast or moved the cursor. The screen would return and perform the task, but on a slow computer this could become quite annoying. …
