A Few New Directions

This month there are a number of new editorial sections in Geographical--all part of our commitment to keeping you abreast of current thinking, as well as making better use of the incredible photographic archives held at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).

First up is the 'dossier', an eight-page feature that tackles contemporary international or global issues head on. I must admit I thought long and hard about calling it a dossier, what with the word having been hijacked in the news recently. And while it's now annoyingly difficult to dissociate the word from the adjective 'sexed-up', at least we can take comfort from the fact that we are using the word correctly. Far from being merely a report, an essay or even a 'justification', a dossier is of course a collection of documents, which is exactly what we're presenting here. Every month these features will contain at least three separate and separable articles offering different views or angles of the same subject.

This month we've tackled globalisation, and there's nothing like setting yourself a challenge. …
