Meeting Industry Challenges with New Services, Benefits

This year our focus has been to provide members with information and benefits they need to manage the challenges posed by today's real estate industry. The result has been significant new services including:

* IREM[R] F.I.R.S.T Our finest example of the Institute's new benefits is IREM[R] F.I.R.S.T. (For Information, Research, Solutions and Training), an online knowledge management database. Activities completed this year on the new knowledge management site (located at www.irem.org) include: a library of more than 1,000 Web site links; a library of more than 150 sample forms to download and customize; an online job bank and human resource tools to help employers; a FAQ/Best Practices section and self-study training modules on a variety of topics.

* Professional Development Education. Recognizing the need for advanced education for those real estate professionals who already earned their designation, the Institute launched its first professional development seminar, "Real Estate Portfolio Management," co-sponsored with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business. The seminar, which was offered in New York City, Newport Beach, CA and Chicago, attracted nearly 100 real estate professionals. Our second "post-key" seminar on "Negotiation & Communication Skills" is in development. …
