April J. Bohannan, 56, cataloging services librarian at Virginia Beach (Va.) Public Library, died August 23 of cancer. Before joining VBPL in 2000, she served as coordinator of library automation and technical services for Fairfax County (Va.) Public Schools, information resources manager at the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University in Durham, and assistant professor at Texas Woman's University School of Library and Information Studies in Denton. * Gerald Jahoda, 77, professor emeritus at Florida State University School of Information Studies in Tallahassee, died September 7. A prolific author and active consultant, Jahoda dealt with progressive failure of his vision by helping develop new techniques for audible indexing and becoming an advocate for blind students and library patrons. Earlier in his career he directed technical information centers for Colgate-Palmolive and the Esso Research and Engineering Company. * Helen Warner Manby, 94, director of the Willard Public Library in Battle Creek, Michigan, from 1943 until her retirement in 1971, died September 26. * Michelle Ann Metts, 35, a reference librarian at Lake County (Ind.) Public Library, died September 11. * Violet Frances Myer, 94, head of the film department at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore from 1955 until her retirement in 1971, died August 28 of congestive heart failure.
