We have all had days like this. The poor kitty in this photograph can always put a smile on my Face and make me realize that I don't have it so bad. "Drenched Cat" is a poster available from Image Conscious that calls for a fun framing treatment that's out of the ordinary.

I cut a 4-inch wide mat (Bainbridge No. 8582 Lupine) with a 3/4-inch channel to reveal a painted boarder of bubbles underneath. To create the border, I used watercolor paints on a white mat board that was cut 1/4-inch narrower than the Lupine mat. I painted the bubbles in a random pattern and surrounded each with a vibrant purple background.

Once the paint was dry, I outlined each bubble with a fine black pen and added details such as starbursts left over from popped bubbles. The pen line adds crispness to hand-painted detail and helps tie in the moulding.

The frame from Larson-Juhl (No. 244c) is a two-toned black frame with gold highlights. …
