Geddes Exits Argos for Top RBS Role

Argos marketing director Paul Geddes is leaving the company to take a senior management role at Royal Bank of Scotland.

As managing director of strategy and marketing, RBS retail, Geddes will be responsible for strategy, product and marketing for both RBS and NatWest retail banks.

Geddes is to join RBS on April 1, and will report directly to Benny Higgins, chief executive of retail banking. He steps into a role that is currently held by Ian Henderson, who is to become managing director of retail change. Henderson will take charge of key internal programmes being implemented by the group following the successful integration of NatWest.

Geddes has been top marketer at Argos since July 2001, when he joined from retail rival Comet.

The company has experienced strong growth during his tenure. In November, it reported first-half operating profit up by 27% to almost pounds 74m. Sales rose by 14% to nearly pounds 1.4bn. …
