Dana L. Bennett Alessi, 60, who worked for Blackwell North America from 1978 until 1989 and was director of sales and marketing for academic libraries at Baker and Taylor Books from 1989 to 1999, died November 26. Active in the profession since the early 1970s, Alessi served on more than 16 ALA committees and authored more than 11 journal articles. * Leonard B. Archer Jr., 90, director of the Oshkosh (Wisc.) Public Library from 1958 to 1978, died November 27. He also worked in libraries in Washington, D.C.; Detroit; and Plainfield and Rutland in Vermont. In Wisconsin, he initiated book-mobile service for Winnebago County communities and was instrumental in establishing the Winnefox Regional Library System, serving as its director. Archer served as chairman of the Wisconsin Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee, and in 1975 was named WLA's Librarian of the Year. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the Chancellor's Medal from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh for his work to develop a "people's university" in the public library. …
