Predicasts Sold to Ziff Communications Company

Predicasts, the giant business database publisher, was sold to Ziff Communications Co. On September 13 for an undisclosed amount. The seller was Information Handling Services Group, Inc., a part of the large European conglomerate Thyssen-Bornemisza, which had also owned BRS before selling it to Maxwell Communications (see following article).

Predicasts will be operated under Ziff's Information Access Company (IAC) subsidiary. A press release issued by Ziff Communications said that Predicasts will continue to be operated in Cleveland under the same personnel.

IAC, based in Foster City, CA, is one of the largest and most vigorously growing database publishers, with strong product lines in both business information sold to corporations and general periodical databases marketed to academic and public libraries. The company has been a pioneer in both online and CD-ROM distribution. It also has a major microform product line.

IAC produces over 15 databases, ranging from ACADEMIC INDEX to TRADE AND INDUSTRY INDEX, a massive database of articles from specialized business journals, newspapers, press releases and newswires. …
