Disc Manufacturing, Inc. Acquires CD-ROM Business from Philips and DuPont Optical

In late August, DuPont and N.V Philips of the Netherlands, as part of the sale of their joint venture, Philips and DuPont Optical Company (PDO), agreed to sell PDO's U.S. CD-ROM business to Disc Manufacturing, Inc., a Quixote Group Company. According to an announcement made by Quixote Corporation, the acquisition of this business by DMI will make DMI the largest software independent, full-service CD-ROM manufacturer in the U.S. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The acquisition includes the continuation of the contract manufacturing business of CD-ROM media at production facilities in King's Mountain, North Carolina, as well as full sales, customer, marketing and technical service support for the U.S. business. PDO employees have been asked to take employment with DMI.
