T-Mobile UK, formerly One 2 One, is the UK network of T-Mobile International, which in turn is one of four divisions of Deutsche Telekom, Europe's second-biggest telecom company.

T-Mobile UK provides mobile telecoms voice and data communications services. It has invested more than pounds 2.5bn in its networks and handles more than 260 million calls a week.

T-Mobile International has subsidiaries in Germany, the UK, the US, Austria and the Czech Republic. The company holds stakes in mobile businesses in Poland, the Netherlands, Russia and Canada, and also owns pan-European portal T-Mobile Online (formerly T-Motion).

The company's origins lie in Mercury One 2 One, which was the world's first GSM network when it launched in the UK in 1993.

Mercury One 2 One was a joint venture between Cable & Wireless and US West International, which became MediaOne. It relaunched as One 2 One in October 1996 and in October 1999 was bought by Deutsche Telekom. T-Mobile UK was launched in April 2002, succeeding the One 2 One company.

In March 2003, Starbucks and T-Mobile UK announced the roll-out of T-Mobile HotSpots, bringing wi-fi access to Starbucks stores.

In September, T-Mobile spent pounds 15m to support its Mix It pricing option, which offers a monthly tariff that can be topped up on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The following month, it signed a pounds 12m deal to become the official mobile telephone backer of the Euro 2004 football tournament.

In the same month, the company launched Screen Styles in five European countries, including the UK. …
