Guy-Talk Format Lands on Local Airwaves

Though other local talk shows flirt with the concept, Brian McKenna and Joe DeNiro's "Midday Mayhem" is the first, true "guy radio" show to hit the St. Louis airwaves with an 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily run time on KSLG 1380 AM.

While sports provides the base of the pair's material, there's more there, according to McKenna. "It's what guys talk about," he says. "Sports, chicks, movies, relationships--whether they be good or bad. When you look at the ratings for sports talk radio, the numbers aren't that good. We're there for the non-sports fan or the average fan.

"Guy talk radio, to me, is like if you and I met at the bar and sat down and had a beer. What we'd talk about is exactly the feeling we're trying to get across."

To be sure, the pair uses sports as a jumping off point for various salty rants and comedic bits, some of which are edgy, to say the least. …
