Hertz Sets Priorities with Clarke Hooper and WWAV

Car rental giant Hertz has made a long-term commitment to its below-the-line strategy with the appointment of two of the UK's largest sales promotion and direct marketing agencies.

The call-up of Clarke Hooper and WWAV is the clearest sign yet that Hertz UK's new marketing director, Stephen Jones, is setting new priorities for the company. They are its first below-the-line agencies to be employed on a retainer basis.

Clarke Hooper, which won the business against four other sales promotion agencies, says it will use the "substantial" but undisclosed budget to carry out a long-term campaign. It says it will work closely with WWAV and with Hertz's ad agency CDP.

WWAV, which won the direct marketing account against seven other agencies, says it will also work closely with specialist telemarketing agency Travel Solutions Direct. It will handle business worth up to 1m pounds. WWAV has worked before for Hertz on a joint promotion with BA.

Hertz was not commenting on either of the appointments as Marketing went to press. …
