Dear Readers,

As an enthusiastic hiker, parks and recreation have always had a special place in my life. While hiking and exploring new worlds like the hidden waterfalls of Lake Havasu in Arizona, the slot canyons in New Mexico, the coral reefs off the coast of Belize, and the bustling cities of Europe, I've experienced first-hand how important parks can be to a healthy lifestyle in any type of community.

As every avid hiker knows, the best trails are the ones you find on your own. Although Parks & Recreation magazine could continue to follow its current path, the staff looks forward to taking the publication on a new course of discovery, one that is envisioned by its readers and then refined by its editors.

Although the trail we are following hasn't been taken before, I promise that if you take it with us, the destination will be one worth visiting every month. You'll begin to notice small changes about the magazine, starting with it arriving earlier in your mailbox. We'll also work on creating more engaging articles, better visuals and a new design. …
