Advest Inc. of Hartford, Conn., said its president, Daniel J. Mullane, would also become its chief executive officer July 1.

That is when Grant Kurtz, the current CEO, will become the chairman emeritus for the investment and advisory firm, a unit of Mony Group Inc. of New York.

Mr. Mullane has been Advest's president since last year. Before that he had been the president of its private client group. He joined Advest in 1991 as its vice president of branch development.

Advest has also hired Sean Farrell as the manager of its Eastern Seaboard division. He will be based in Washington and oversee offices in Boston, Hartford, Providence, R.I., Portland, Maine, Ocala, Fla., and Richmond, Va.

Mr. Farrell was a vice president and a complex manager at Wachovia/Prudential Financial Advisors LLC, a joint venture formed last year when Wachovia Corp. and Prudential Financial Inc. merged their retail brokerages. Before that he had worked at Prudential Securities Inc.

Ameritrade Holding Corp., an Omaha online brokerage, has hired Kenneth I. Feldman as the president of its private client division.

Mr. Feldman was a vice president and the senior director of marketing at America West Airlines, where he oversaw customer loyalty programs, business partner development, promotions, creative services, and product and consumer marketing.

Deutsche Bank AG has hired Carlos Rodriguez as the head of the municipal derivatives group within its global markets division. …
