FOR BUSINESS

I visit New York roughly once every three months, and I always stay at the W Hotel on Lexington Avenue. I used to stay at a more budget hotel down the road but it was awful, especially when I was staying there over weekends and working long hours. I'd visited the W's bar and I decided to try it. It has a personable style and is not too vast by New York standards. It's modern and stylish without being over-funky. It's also incredibly comfortable and has all the creature comforts you could need. The location's terrific too - near everything you need - and it's in the cultural quarter, which houses the big museums like the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan. Most of the people I need to meet are based near the W. The hotel has great room service - you can get food at any time of the day or night - and a lively cocktail bar.

FOR PLEASURE

The Hotel Palacio do Bucaco in northern Portugal has beautiful, vast rooms and is slightly old-fashioned. …
