Rewards of the Job: Working on endlessly fascinating, if at times frustrating issues, with great people. Being a Medicaid director puts you in a unique role as the policy intermediary on health care policy and budgets for state and federal governments.

Accomplishments Most Proud Of: Helping to keep it together during the tough times. Improving access and quality for kids and families in the HUSKY program (Medicaid managed care and the State Children's Health Insurance Program).

Thoughts About the State of the Medicaid Program: There can't really be Medicaid reform until there is Medicare reform, since dual eligible costs account for over 40 percent of most state Medicaid budgets. …
