ISI Announces Release of New CD-ROM Database with Abstracts

Article excerpt

The Institute of Scientific Information is developing a biomedical engineering database with abstracts on CD-ROM, scheduled to be released next month. The Biomedical Engineering Citation Index will offer complete coverage of the significant journal literature in biomedical engineering.

This new CD-ROM database with abstracts will cover all areas of engineering as they are applied to medicine and healthcare, including instrumentation, surgical tools, treatment techniques, implantable devices and organs, artificial limbs and prostheses. Additional topics covered will include biomaterials, biocompatibility, rehabilitation engineering, biosensors, and computer applications in medicine.

It will index relevant information related to biomedical engineering from the 7,0000 journals covered in ISI's multi-disciplinary database. The Biomedical Engineering Citation Index will include items from fields as diverse as chemical engineering, materials science, orthopedics, electronic engineering, rehabilitation, surgery, and many more. The result is complete bibliographic data and cited references on an estimated 30,000 items per year.

This new CD-ROM database will feature searchable, English-language, author abstracts--as well as Related Records. This feature links articles sharing one or more bibliographic references, automatically increasing the number of articles retrieved within a particular search. Related Records is a hypertext feature, specific only to ISI CD-ROM products.

Another feature, cited reference searching, is a unique way to conduct information searches. …
