William Robert Eshelman, 82, president of Scarecrow Press from 1979 to 1986, died August 9 of congestive heart failure. From 1968 to 1978 he was editor of Wilson Library Bulletin; from 1965 to 1968 he served as university librarian and professor of bibliography at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and at Los Angeles State College he was assistant college librarian from 1954 to 1959 and college librarian from 1959 to 1965. * Ruth Ruggles Fetzer, 83, who retired in 1980 after serving for 15 years as a librarian for Prince George's County (Md.) Memorial Library System, died June 3. * John W. Jones, 59, director of Collier County (Fla.) Public Library since 1994, died of cancer June 10. Known for his creativity and innovation in programming and services as well as planning and designing library buildings, he was honored in 2002 when the county named the solarium in the new $10-million headquarters library after him. He began his library career in 1969 at the Forsyth County (N.C.) Public Library. In 1980, he became director of the Neuse Regional Library System in Kinston, North Carolina, and in 1985 was named North Carolina Library Director of the Year. In 1992, he was elected president of the North Carolina Public Library Director's Association, and the following year he was appointed to the state library commission. * Susan Mathews, 62, the first head librarian for the Helen Hall Library in League City, Texas, where she served for 32 years, died May 1. …
