First Virginia Promotes Two to Executive VP

Shirley C. Beavers Jr. and Barry J. Fitzpatrick have been elected executive vice presidents of First Virginia Banks Inc., a $6.1 billion-asset bank holding company headquartered in Falls Church, Va.

Mr. Beavers is responsible for the service affiliates and related staff functions and Mr. Fitzpatrick is responsible for the banking affiliates, which are organized in five regions, and the four regional operations centers.

Charles L. Robbins 3d has been named senior vice president and regional executive officer of the corporation and will be responsible for the Tennessee-western Virgina region, which consists of three banks with 25 offices and the Tennessee operations centers.

Mr. Robbins succeeds Raymond E. Brann Jr., who assumes responsibility for First Virginia's Eastern Region headquarters in Richmond, which consists of five banks and 91 offices and the eastern operations center.

At Tri-City Bank, a subsidiary, Mr. Robbins was elected president and chief executive officer succeeding Mr. Brann, and Larry M. Shaver was elected executive vice president.

Robert H. Zalokar, chairman and chief executive officer of First Virginia Banks, said that in addition to including Mr. Beavers and Mr. Fitzpatrick, the management committee of the corporation would now consist of himself as CEO and Paul H. Geithner Jr. as president and chief administrative officer.

Mr. Beavers will continue as president and CEO of First Virginia Services Inc., the corporation's electronic data processing and electronic banking affiliate.

Mr. Fitzpatrick most recently was senior vice president and regional executive officer for the Eastern Region.

NEW ENGLAND

Fleet Bank, Hartford, Conn., has named five senior vice presidents.

They are R. Randolph Hatch, commercial division, private banking regional manager for the Fairfield County market; Susan Kuntz, credit administration, managed assets division; Kathleen Lynch, regional manager for middle-market business in Hartford and points east, commercial division; Jan-Gee McCollam, Hartford corporate and insurance groups, specialized lending area, commercial division; and Thomas J. Tomai, regional manager, western region (West) Hartford and points west), consumer division.

Fleet Bank of Massachusetts, Boston, has named Susan H. Petree vice president and private banking group leader. She was formerly with Boston Co. as vice president and regional lending manager.

Also appointed were Linda B. Taylor, as vice president of corporate banking in the middle-market group, and Giro DeRosa, as vice president and assistant controller.

State Bank of Long Island, New Hyde Park, N.Y., has announced the following appoints:
