MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Fifth Third Bancorp of Cincinnati has hired Terry E. Zink as the president and chief executive officer of its Chicago banking operations.

Mr. Zink was an executive vice president at Wells Fargo & Co. and the regional president of its banking operations in Nebraska. Before that he had been the regional president for the bank's southern California division.

At Fifth Third he succeeded Bradlee Stamper, who resigned in November.

Commerce Bank of Cherry Hill, N.J., has hired John F. Coffey as its managing director of Long Island real estate lending.

Mr. Coffey was a senior vice president and the head of the construction lending team at New York Community Bank of Westbury, on Long Island. He joined it in 2003 when New York Community Bancorp Inc. bought Roslyn Bancorp, at whose Roslyn Bank he had worked for five years.

His 36 years in financial services also includes senior-level jobs at Fleet Bank (which Bank of America Corp. bought last year) and Chemical Bank (now JPMorgan Chase Bank).

New York Life Investment Management LLC has hired William F. Gibson as its senior managing director of technology and operations, a newly created job.

The Parsippany, N.J., company is a unit of New York Life Insurance Co.

Mr. Gibson was the global chief operating officer at ING Investment Management of The Hague. He oversaw operations, information technology, finance, compliance, and risk management activities across 26 countries for the ING Group NV unit.

Earlier in his career he had also held senior executive posts at Merrill Lynch & Co. …
