The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) has acquired Crossaig Limited, a Scotland-based company that provides software development and editorial services for secondary information publishers. Crossaig has developed and implemented state-of-the-art production technology specifically designed for the information industry.

This intelligent processing technology provides a flexible and rapid mechanism for indexing and database entry, enabling multiple production processes to be performed simultaneously at one or more sites. Images are used as a key that links a network of editorial staff and multiple production sites using advanced ISDN telecommunications. Efficiency tools, such as Intelligent Character Recognition and semi-automatic indexing, are fully integrated into a complete work-flow process.

According to William A. Schlegel, ISI's Chief Executive Officer, the acquisition of the Crossaig technology provides ISI with opportunities to enhance data integrity, quality and presentation; to offer new products; and, accelerate product delivery.
