Growing up in the fine art gallery business, I was always interested in the visual arts," says Bob Chase, president of The Chase Group, Northbrook, IL. "I had a front row seat as I watched my father and grandfather build a robust gallery business over three decades, so my world was a visually rich and exciting place."

However, when it came to a career of his own, it was marketing and film production that Chase pursued. After graduating with a degree in marketing and the visual arts, he spent several years as a location scout for Chicago film projects and then as a producer for a Chicago ad agency.

"In 1996," Chase says, "my life interests--marketing and the visual arts--were finally joined when my wife and I started The Chase Group.

"I was intrigued with the idea of giving art dealers an opportunity to look at business differently. I believe that when you marry artists who have a unique vision together with creative marketing and collecting opportunities, not only can you build a dealer's business by bringing new collectors in the door, but also by creating collecting paths that evolve over time.

"At the end of the day, our ambition is to contribute something meaningful to today's art market, while giving something tangible back to the communities in which our artists are represented. Mackenzie Thorpe, known around the world as a dyslexic who survived an extremely difficult childhood, adds a charitable component to every exhibition. His efforts over just the last three years have raised close to a half-million dollars for a diverse list of charities, all of which deal with issues affecting the lives of children. …
