MIDWEST

U.S. Bancorp Asset Management Inc. of Minneapolis has hired David H. Lui as its chief compliance officer.

He came to the U.S. Bancorp unit from Franklin Resources Inc. of San Mateo, Calif. He was the chief compliance officer for Franklin Advisors Inc. and the chief compliance counsel for Franklin Templeton Investments.

Before that he had been the chief compliance counsel for Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. of San Francisco. Earlier he had been an associate at the San Francisco law firm Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges. (The firm merged with New York's Reid & Priest in 1998 to become Thelen Reid & Priest LLP.)

Mr. Lui has 17 years of experience in compliance management and investment law.

Piper Jaffray Cos. of Minneapolis said Robert W. Peterson will become the head of its private client services business on April 1.

He has been the head of investment research since 2003 and for three years before that was the head of equity research. He joined the investment banking company in 1993. (U.S. Bancorp bought it in 1998, renamed it U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, and spun it off at the end of 2003.)

Mr. Peterson will succeed Paul D. Grangaard, who has led the private client services business since 2001. Mr. Grangaard is leaving the company, for which he has worked 19 years.

SOUTHEAST

Bank of America Corp. has named J. Chandler Martin its treasurer.

Mr. Martin was the Charlotte company's enterprise market and operational risk executive.

As treasurer he succeeded Joseph Dewhirst, who resigned. Mr. Dewhirst had the job since April 2004, when B of A bought FleetBoston Financial Corp.; he had been Fleet's treasurer.
