Adwatch: Quality Standard Mark - 'Test'

What would my Auntie Carol think? Believe it or not, this is a question I often ask myself when mulling over an idea. After all, we don't live in a world populated by Prada-clad ad luvvies. Our shops and supermarkets are full of real people like Carol, and it is their hearts and wallets that our advertising needs to capture.

So, what would my aunt make of the new beef and lamb Quality Standard Mark commercial?

In case you haven't seen the ad, an animated Ian 'Beefy' Botham and Alan 'Lamby' Lamb have set up home together. Permanently dressed in cricket whites (well you would, wouldn't you?), they lark about in the kitchen, cooking, you guessed it, beef and lamb. Naturally, all of the meat comes with the reassurance of a Quality Standard Mark.

In this particular execution, the lads are busy cooking when cricket coverage begins on the radio. Unable to resist the beat of the famous Test match tune, they begin to bash out the rhythm on pots and pans, finishing with Lamby giving us a solo on the trombone. To cap it all, the end voiceover is delivered by Henry 'Blowers' Blofeld himself. …
