Rosary College and College of St. Catherine to Offer Joint Master's Program in Library Science

Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois and the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnisota have joined in a unique arrangement to offer a Master of Arts in Library Science (MALS) in the Twin Cities area.

This program will bring an American Library Association (ALA) accredited graduate degree to the Twin Cities for the first time in almost 15 years. ALA accreditation is a specific requirement for many library jobs, particularly for academic and public library positions.

"Librarianship is a deferred career choice for many," says Michael Koenig, dean of Rosary College's Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS). "The average age of master's degree students nationwide is 34. As a result, many good potential students are location bound, and so the presence of a program in such a large metropolitan area is a real asset to the area and to the profession."
