David Agler, the seventh artistic director of the Wexford Festival Opera and the first conductor in that role, is clearly excited about his prestigious assignment, and early signs are that he will have a considerable impact on the 55-year-old festival.

Agler first came to Wexford as conductor of Zdenek Fibich's opera Sarka, to considerable acclaim, in 1996. At the time, he was music director of Vancouver Opera, but he has also conducted around the globe. He was principal conductor for Australian Opera, resident conductor for San Francisco Opera, principal guest conductor for Oper der Stadt Koln, music director of Syracuse Opera, artistic director of Opera Festival of New Jersey, and conductor and administrator for the Spoleto Festival. …
