Agriculture in America
Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), Forbes, and American Heritage magazine recognize the importance of preparing our nation's youth for their roles as tomorrow's leaders. This year, we proudly announced an exciting opportunity for current high school juniors--the "Ag in America" scholarship contest.
This contest asked students to submit an essay of 500 to 700 words on the topic "How Agriculture Is Important to My Life and My Future." The student author of the winning essay, found on the facing page, received $2,000 to use for her college education.
ADM is proud to encourage tomorrow's agricultural leaders. As an essential link between the farmer and the consumer, ADM recognizes the importance of agriculture. And we believe that the winning essay truly conveys that importance.
For more than 50 years, American Heritage has been illuminating America's history with dramatic articles written by some of our nation's foremost scholars. Winners of the "Ag in America" scholarship contest were chosen by the magazine's editors, Richard F. Snow and Frederick E. Allen.
Because we received so many great entries, selecting a winner was difficult. ADM, Forbes, and American Heritage would like to encourage every applicant to continue to develop their agricultural interests and skills.
The contest provided an opportunity for students to reflect on the wide-ranging impact of agriculture on our society and economy. We received entries from many talented students and are pleased to share with you some of the highlights. …
