What's the most popular coffee choice among the marketing team?

We produce a wide range of coffee blends for our own brands and for own-label lines, so we often change the coffee beans in the grinder. Templo Cafes espresso or Lyons Original are our favourites, depending on the time of day and situation.

Is popping out to Starbucks or Caffe Nero frowned upon at Gala?

Not at all. To be a coffee expert you need to sample everything and keep up with market developments and innovations. There is a lot we can learn from our competitors, just as they can learn from us.

What is the main marketing challenge you face?

The Lyons relaunch next year. Alongside brand portfolio management and the creation of a new marketing strategy, there are challenging and exciting times ahead for the marketing team.

What's it like working in Dartford?

It's a long way when your home is in Hampstead like mine; and a very long way when your home is in South Gloucestershire, as is Steve Phelps', one of our top marketers. The Dartford bridge and tunnel can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes, but there is a beautiful view of the river when the sun comes up.

Is there a typical Gala Coffee & Tea marketer?
