It's possible to drive a different car every day thanks to Zipcar, believed to be the largest car-sharing company in the country, with 800-plus vehicles and nearly 50,000 members. "Savvy urbanites know that if they don't have to commute to work each day in a car, it just does not make sense to own a car in the city," says Matt Malloy, vice president of marketing for the firm, which works on a membership basis and offers 20 makes and models in 28 cities in nine states.

Founded in 1999, the company has earned a reputation for supporting the LGBT community. According to Aid for AIDS special events coordinator Christine Kim, Zipcar has donated memberships and driving-time credits at fund-raisers for the New York-based organization, which collects antiretroviral medicine in the United States and sends it to HIV-positive patients in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Zipcar's vehicles pick up the donated pills as well. And Zipcar has a partnership with the Human Rights Campaign that lets HRC donors join for $25--a savings of as much as $150 in sign-up fees depending on a member's place of residence. …
