Reviewer Comments:

Installation: Installation of this huge program isn't as easy as might be hoped. In the first place, a DVD-ROM drive is required. If Windows.Net technology isn't available (and it isn't available on many school systems), the program's installer will add the program to the already large Windows operating system. In addition, some users may have to download additional service packs and patches from Windows Update to avoid security risks. Installation Rating: B

Content/Features: Microsoft Student 2006 is one of a couple of products released recently by Microsoft with the aim of helping students improve their productivity with Microsoft Office. The program offers some new products and incorporates some previously available Microsoft programs.

Student 2006 includes Learning Essentials for Students, a program that provides MS Office-compatible templates and tutorials for the creation of reports and presentations. Also included are a Web Companion that aids Internet research with editorially approved content provided with Web search results, Encarta Premium Encyclopedia, project starter guides and tools, a graphing customizable 3-D calculator, online math homework help, and book summaries.

The many components of Student 2006 can be accessed directly from a home screen and a Quick Launch Task Bar. Microsoft Office is not required to use most of these materials, although the materials are intended for use with MS Office.

The program's fully functioning graphing calculator software actually makes some functions easier than using a handheld calculator. Among other things, this program creates graphs that can be saved and used in other documents.

This excellent calculator features a full-color display with 2-D and 3-D charting capabilities to help students visualize difficult problems in trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, and physics classes. …
