In 2005, William Burger joined the Copyright Clearance Center as vice president of marketing. He's the first one to admit his marketing strategies have an outward focus "with a passion for organic growth." His mission is to develop new products and communications for the world's largest provider of content licensing solutions.

"Our RightsLink service was an early example of how we could meet a real need--in this case, for publishers who want to streamline and improve the service level of their rights and permissions and reprint businesses," he said. And CCC will be rolling out a new service for large corporate customers later this year.

A graduate of Stanford University in political science, Burger dug his heels into publishing as editor in chief of The Stanford Daily and as president of the Stanford Daily Publishing Corp. After a stint as a general assignment reporter at Florida's Orlando Sentinal, he joined Newsweek as editor, writer, and correspondent in 1981. He spent the next 14 years in New York, Tokyo, and London, where he directed European business and economic coverage for Newsweek International. …
