Everyone knows that the media world is at a crossroads. To use the jargon of the day, magazines, newspapers and TV news shows have all realized that consumers now want to "access content" across as many "platforms" as possible, from the Web to cell phones to iPods. At NEWSWEEK, we don't think this means the Internet will replace the printed page, but it does mean we have to give you the richest possible experience in both places. (Not to mention radio; our podcast of "NEWSWEEK On Air" is now routinely in the top dozen most downloaded news broadcasts on iTunes.) That's why we were thrilled last week to hear that NEWSWEEK .com is one of five finalists for the 2006 National Magazine Award for General Excellence Online. After winning the coveted "Ellie" for General Excellence in 2002 and 2004, this makes us the first NEWSWEEKly to be nominated for the top award in both print and on the Web since the online award was introduced five years ago.

Yet as proud as we are of our Web team--editor Deidre Depke and Arlene Getz, Carl Sullivan, Rolf Ebeling, Kathy Jones, Cathy Fenlon,
