Gutsy Virginia teen Aidan Grennell took a big risk when she allowed MTV to document her life with two moms for True Life: I Have Gay Parents, which aired on January 26. The 17-year, old high school senior, who currently has a boyfriend but refers to herself as pansexual, updates us on her post-MTV life and her surprising career aspirations.

How has your community reacted to the show?

People say very positive things, or they don't say any. thing. The airing of the show was announced in all my classes, and people talked about it all over school. I've gotten remarks from teachers about how it opened up their eyes to prejudice and oppression. It really opened up a lot of dialogue.

Is your school [James River High School in Richmond, Va.] gay-friendly?

Yes, actually, Our principal has done amazing things for our gay-straight alliance and battled groups that have tried to kill GSAs in Virginia. The Student population is mixed. In Virginia some people follow exactly what their parents say and are really against the GSA. The general rule seems to be as long as [the GSAs] don't make too much noise, [the antigay students] pretend they don't exist. …
