Engineering Information, Inc. (Ei) has enhanced Ei Compendex (*) Plus to provide more efficient searches in the database. These enhancements include more frequent online updates, improved subject headings, a new thesaurus, and the addition of many new physics records.

Weekly online updates now replace the previous monthly updates in Ei Compendex (*) Plus to provide researchers with more current information. The database is accessible through Dialog Information Services, InfoPro Technologies Orbit, STN International, CAN/OLE-CAN/SDI in Canada, CEDOCAR and Questel in France, Data-Star, ESAIRS, OCLC and FIZ TECHNIK.

In another significant change, from 1993 forward Ei Compendex (*) Plus utilizes new natural-word-order descriptor headings instead of the previous inverted headings, and eliminates sub-headings. Classification codes also have been expanded. SDI customers, in particular, will want to become familiar with the new indexing structure so that appropriate language changes in search files may be made.

Supporting search strategies in the new format is the new Ei Thesaurus, the first ever linked to a major engineering indexing database. Containing over 18,000 terms, it is more intuitive than earlier Ei search aids. …
