U-Turning Abbey Rejigs Top Team

Abbey National this week restructures its marketing one month after the sudden departure of former director John Berry.

The new structure under recently appointed marketing operations director Oliver Herbert is a U-turn on the changes Berry instigated just seven months ago.

It divides responsibilities along five product lines. Marketing services (including responsibility for advertising and research) remains in the hands of Mike Doyle.

Berry's changes streamlined the department into three reporting channels: products, headed by Ambrose McGinn, strategic issues under Keith Flint and marketing services under Doyle.

The five new product directors reporting to Herbert are McGinn in charge of mortgages, Dave Williams savings products, Graham Goold handling general insurance, and Peter Waller heading banking.

The fifth product director in charge of life assurance has yet to be appointed. Four people have been shortlisted for the job.

Flint moves across to the separate strategic marketing unit headed by Douglas Carter. …
