Pixsy Corp., a developer of image search solutions, announced Version 2.0 of its search site, Pixsy.com. Pixsy has developed a proprietary visual search engine that aggregates RSS feeds, extracts photos and video thumbnail images, indexes and organizes them into categories, and makes them searchable for users.

A favorite resource gets even better--Google Earth, the satellite mapping tool, is starting to add 2- to 4-minute video clips from Discovery Communications. In the initial release, Discovery is providing video content showcasing 10 national parks; in the coming months, the company will add locations around the world. Discovery also launched ad-supported broadband channels for its content (Discovery Channel Beyond and Travel Channel Beyond, powered by Brightcove) and said it would launch Discovery Mobile in 3Q 2006. Think about viewing information on a mobile device about a city you are visiting.

Google released a new calendar feature for registered Google account users--another jab at Microsoft's software dominance. While users must consider the trade-off between functionality and personal security and privacy, it clearly moves Google closer to providing a full suite of Web-based applications, a la Microsoft's software. In other Google news, the company's "Orion" search algorithm is said to provide more targeted results by finding pages related to a keyword.
