There are plenty of changes happening at Ask.com these days. The company changed its name from AskJeeves.com, retired its signature butler icon, and expanded its search technologies under the umbrella of Ask.com.

And Tao Yang, Ask.com's new senior vice president and chief scientist, sees more changes coming. "One of the biggest challenges in my role is how to deal with the information explosion on the Internet," he said. "Users want fresh and high-quality information while we, as a top information retrieval company, need to supply the correct information in a timely manner. We need to continue to innovate scalable algorithms and software that acquire/classify/ search a massive amount of information promptly and that understand and match users' interests."

Yang is in a good position to drive the global development and growth of Ask.com search technologies. He was with Teoma Technologies, Inc., when Ask.com acquired Teoma in 2001. Yang, who has been a co-leader in search technology research and development since 2000, is also co-inventor of the ExpertRank search algorithm, which was integrated into the Ask. …
