In the CD booklet for Unrest's latest release, Perfect Teeth, a tiny line of type makes the prideful, deadpan claim that "Unrest use only Sears Silvertone brand guitar amplifiers because they want the best." The notes also point out that "no guitar effects or synthesizers were used on this recording"--as if anyone could possibly detect either in the trio's skeletal,minimalist sound. Indeed, guitarist Mark Robinson's choppy, strummy chords suggest the Ramones' primitivist ethic shot through with cheeky pop smarts and an occasional foray into droney sonic experiments.

The band credits Duran Duran singer Simon LeBon as the album's producer. "I guess we just like to amuse ourselves," says Robinson, who explains that "we were just in a weird mood" when they suggested Lebon as a producer "But the label [4AD] contacted him. He hung for a couple of days but really didn't do anything. …
