Multi-Tech Ships V.32terbo Modems and Reduces Price

Article excerpt

Multi-Tech Systems Inc. is shipping its newest MultiModemII, the MT1932BL, which supports AT&T's 16.8K/19.2K bps V.32terbo open standard. The V.32terbo standard extends current 9.6K and 14.4K bps modem technology by providing two new data rates in a scheme otherwise like that of the 14.4K bps V.32bis. The MT1932BL provides the higher data rates while maintaining compatibility with lower-speed modems based on V.32bis, V.32, V.22bis and other common modulation standards.

The MT1932BL provides synchronous or asynchronous operation over dedicated or dial-up phone lines, with V.42 error correction in asynchronous mode for 100 percent error-free data and V.42bis "4-to-1" data compression for effective throughputs up to 76.8K bps (depending on file content). For async operation over dial-up lines, it includes a V.17/Group 3 Fax modem (for 14.4K/9600/4800 bps Fax transmissions), MultiExpress data communications software (for dial-in and dial-out), and MultiExpressFax software (based on industry standard EIA Class 2 Fax modem commands). It also includes all of the features and speeds of the other MultiModemII products, with additional support for four-wire leased-line operation.

A dial back-up feature lets the new modem continue data communications even if its leased line connection fails. …
