MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Credit Suisse Group has hired David M. Platter as its head of financial institutions investment banking for the Americas.

Mr. Platter, who will be based in New York, was a managing director and the head of the financial institutions group at Sagent Advisors Inc., a New York investment banking boutique.

Before that he had been a senior managing director and the global head of the financial institutions group at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. Earlier he had worked in the financial institutions group at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc., which Credit Suisse bought in 2000.

He began his career in 1985 at Morgan Stanley.

Ryan Beck & Co. Inc., a Florham Park, N.J., unit of BankAtlantic Bancorp Inc., has hired Mitchell Schaffer as a managing director and the head of its consumer investment banking unit.

Mr. Schaffer was managing director of the consumer products investment banking group at ABN Amro Inc. and, earlier, at ING Barings. (ABN Amro Holding NV bought the North American prime brokerage, corporate finance, domestic equities, and futures and options businesses of the ING Group NV unit in 2001.)

Ryan Beck has also hired Gregory S. Winsper as a senior vice president and its director of marketing.

Mr. Winsper was the senior vice president of the integrated marketing and communications group at Axa Financial Inc. of New York.

He had held a variety of jobs at Axa since joining the insurance giant in 1986. …
