Scholarships Up for Grabs for LTI Seminars

NLC's Leadership Training Council recently announced that scholarships will be offered for the Leadership Training Institute (LTI) seminars at the Congress of Cities and Exposition conference in Reno, Nev., in December.

All city officials who have not participated in a LTI seminar at any of NLC's past annual conferences are eligible to apply. The scholarships cover the registration fee for either a half-day or full-day seminar.

LTI seminars provide local elected and appointed officials with intensive, hands-on training in subjects relevant to local governance. Trainers for the seminars design their programs so that participants can develop new skills, engage in small group discussions with colleagues from other cities and towns, and walk away with tools to put into practice in their own communities.

"The Leadership Training Council wants to encourage NLC members, particularly those who are newly elected or appointed, to participate in the LTI seminars," stated Leadership Training Council Chair Leslie Burl McLemore, council member, Jackson, Miss. "These seminars have great value in helping us become more effective in our role as a local city leader and working within our home communities."

Nineteen LTI seminars are scheduled for December 5-6 at the upcoming conference, covering topics ranging from "Building Inclusive Communities through Democratic Governance" to "Managing Communication Style Differences" to "Strategies for Strengthening the Availability of Housing Affordable to Working Families. …
