The National Information Infrastructure (NII) is now a formal term that has begun to appear in library, education, business, and other indexes. In the following article Maurice Mitchell and I provide an overview of the developing NII and how it could possibly affect libraries. The National Information Infrastructure: Agenda for Change

On September 15, 1993, the Clinton Administration released an Agenda for Action for the National Information Infrastructure. The Agenda for Action describes the role of the government in promoting the development of the telecommunications and information infrastructure by the private sector and in ensuring that all Americans have access to this infrastructure. This infrastructure will connect the nation's businesses, residences, schools, health care facilities, and public information providers through advanced, interactive, high-speed networks.
