When will it all stop? Is there any sign that states and local city governments will end their almost constant stream of new lending laws? Actually, the evidence is in the other direction. They are finding new areas in which to exercise their originality. Ironically, the federal government is finding it harder and harder to get anything passed.

This month we open with a roundup article covering the latest regulatory and legislative developments so far this year in states and cities around the country. The article titled "Licensing, Lending and Losing Your Identity" sums up the main areas where lawmakers and regulators have been busy writing new requirements or adjusting old ones. The article by Carol Tomaszczuk, Amber Ried-Barrett and Anna Pane, of Lotstein Buckman LLP and iComply, Washington, D.C., reports that mortgage broker licensing is coming to Colorado; and Cook County, Illinois, is launching a new anti-predatory-lending pilot program.
