So, M&S achieved 66% recall in this week's Adwatch table. Of course, this isn't just recall, this is M&S recall - drenched in a rich sauce of confidence and served on top of a nest of less appetising ads.

The truth is, this campaign has been a wonderful success. It oozes what M&S stands for - quality. The beautifully crafted visuals are good old-fashioned food porn, while the slow, breathy female voiceover is good old-fashioned man porn.

Listening to the seductive tones, my pulse quickens as the olive oil drizzles slowly over the plump, white fleshy mounds of mozzarella, before spilling wantonly all over the rim of the plate.

Where was I? A huge uplift. Oh yes, 66%. The M&S campaign has tickled the nation's taste buds. Better still, it has captured its imagination. Its appeal can be seen in the number of spoofs: from Big Cook Little Cook on CBeebies to Bremner, Bird and Fortune on Channel 4 and wannabe comedians on YouTube. Its instant recognition and easy-to-ape style make it the punter's short cut to saying my show/blog/girlfriend is better than yours. …
