IIA Gets Ten Year Free Access Commitment

The IIA has reached an agreement with International Online Services (IOS), whereby IOS has agreed to provide the IIA with unlimited free bandwidth for the next ten years. This allows the IIA to continue offering unlimited free access to anyone who wants to use the Internet.

IOS is a newborn division of International Discount Telecommunications (IDT), the nation's eighth largest international phone company. It was thought IDT had finally bitten off more than it could chew when at no cost it started providing the non-profit IIA with the necessary services for them to offer free access to anyone who wanted to use the fast growing Internet. IDT even encouraged employee involvement with the association.

Due to heavy demand, which has the IIA signing up thousands of free accounts every week, IDT president, Howard Jonas, asked the IIA to secure additional benefactor companies. IIA Executive Director, Max Robbins, solicited for services. Unfortunately, all the industry giants approached by the IIA, including AT&T, MCI, Sprint, America Online, Prodigy, and CompuServe, failed to respond to the appeal for free bandwidth by the association's February 25th deadline. …
