Nation's First Right-to-Die BBS Now Online

Article excerpt

Choice In Dying, a national not-for-profit organization, introduced the nation's first electronic bulletin board service devoted solely to right-to-die issues and end-of-life decision making. Now, current resources about these issues are available to health care professionals and consumers--for free--through the electronic bulletin board system, the CID-BBS.

Callers may access the CID-BBS 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a computer and modem. Caller will be able to access and download informational files, and to communicate and share ideas with professionals around the country via an online messaging service.

The CID-BBS features up-to-date information about the right to die and end-of-life planning, including files about:

* Advance Directives: the general term for living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care, which are legal documents that allow an individual to participate in medical treatment decisions at the end of life

* Active and Passive Euthanasia: distinctions between them and related legal issues

* Legal/Legislative Highlights: summaries and analyses of major court cases and the most current information about right-to-die legislation

* Fact Sheets: with topics ranging from women and end-of-life decision making; the Patient-Self-Determination Act (PSDA), which is federal law concerning advance directives; and scores of other aspects of end-of-life care
