NEW PRODUCTION CENTERS in north Africa and northern Europe will be equipped with Ferag mailroom systems. Egypt's largest daily, Al Ahram, ordered three Single Copy Conveyor lines and stacking systems complete with inseting, packaging and bundle distribution. Papers will be printed on a Koenig & Bauer Commander 80 press at a plant to be commissioned in 1996.

Each SCC line will have its own inserting sector, with possible alternative control of a second inserting drum. Together, the three drums will insert 80,000 papers per hour. Preprinted sections will be temporarily wound onto Variodisc systems. A winding station and two precollecting systems for each drum will allow the addition of three inserts or preprints in a single run.

Each processing line will contain a stacking system, two of which can be shifted between two conveying systems. Completing packaging will be topsheet printers, kraft underwrappers and Metaverpa strappers. In distribution, a laser-based system is designed to recognize bundles for automatic assignment to loading stations.

Next spring, a new printing plant should be ready for the centennial of Gefle Dagblad, Gavle, Sweden. Joining the new pressroom, equipped with a Koenig & Bauer Journal press for greater color capacity for the 32,000-circulation broadsheet, will be an extended mailroom consisting of a Single Copy Conveyor and an ETR/C inserting drum with high-speed hoppers. …
