As a mom, I'm a media buyer's nightmare. I am eager to know about new goods and services as I want the best for my family. But trying to advertise to me is like chasing a toddler. I won't stand still.

This is not to say I don't want to receive advertising. I do--all kinds. I want to know what foods are coming out sans trans fats. I want to know what new after-school programs are opening in my neighborhood. I want to know which carmaker has the highest safety ratings.

The problem is that I can't guarantee when I will be available to view these ads. Perhaps it will be tonight in primetime. …
