Kassel, a modest town in Hesse, is now starting to receive unusual numbers of hotel bookings, as artists and their camp followers plan their route through Europe's astronomical alignment of Venice, Art Basel, Munster Sculpure Projects and Documenta. Whatever the list of artists selected and the changes in the use of Kassel's possible venues--a move away from post-industrial spaces is promised--some of the thinking for Roger M Buergel's Documenta 12 has been usefully outsourced. The Documenta magazines project is extending tentacles in many directions and continents, and is apparently discussing all the findings in what are rather disturbingly named 'quiet colloquia' leading to the publication of a 'magazine of magazines' (see www.documenta12.de). Radical Philosophy, the UK journal run by a collective, which in recent years has increasingly paid attention to the critical role of art, is one of the magazines Documenta has asked to respond to one of the questions Buergel has decided on: 'What is to be done? …
